Trade Faire at Fort Loudon, September 6-7, 2008
His Majesty's First Troop had six combatants - five guns and drummer, along
with our Camp follower, in attendance at Fort
Loudon's Trade Faire event this year. We were heavily involved in all the
skirmishes, and had the opportunity to "make it hot" for the opposing forces as
the advance guard in each demonstration.
A great time was had by all as the fort welcomed us with open arms -- and
barracks doors -- allowing us to use the guard house as our home away from
Savannah Town. The weather was a challenge, but encouraged late afternoon
swimming sessions to cool off.

The entire first troop who were present: (L-R) Wynne, some unknown highlander, Chris, Russell, Brent, Sam and Jacob wait in the shade like Frenchmen as they await the call to the afternoon skirmish on Sunday. The troop (less Private Eden the younger, who was dispatched to warn the fort of the attack) holding off the murderous French and her allies. The Corporal and Private Eden continue to fire as Brent eats dirt. The fort's Molly and private Eden drag the Corporal from the field to die in the shade...eventually Drummer Eden performing his necessary chores to clean up after meals. Getting the drummer in fine fit and fiddle for the action. Corporal Wynn recovering from his wounds in the barracks. The baker pulls bread from the large earth oven. We all enjoyed being close enough to tell when new loaves and shortbreads were coming out of the oven. The firelocks neatly ordered in the barracks, ready for action if we are called. Headed up the hill in the middle of the fort on the first day of the event. Just before the large skirmish on the first day - Russell, Sam, Jacob (behind Sam), Wynne and Chris.
